Oracle Cards and Decks

Oracle cards and decks are a tool of self-reflection, they can also be used for fun. An oracle deck can essentially be whatever the creator of the deck wants it to be; they pick how many cards are in it, what sorts of imagery it’ll use, and what purpose it is suppose to serve.  There are many different types of oracle decks that come in all shapes, sizes and functions.  The basic setup is that they have images and words, along with a book that explains ways in which a reader should interpret them.  They add deeper meaning to your readings and adds an extra layer of intuition.  Oracle cards can be used in a variety of ways, from affirmations or a daily reading to spiritual guide interpretation through nature to a multiple card spread, etc.

The difference between oracle cards and tarot cards is that there is much more room for creativity and intuition with oracle cards.  Oracle decks are much more unique and personalised, and they can often better represent you than the tarot can.  Oracle cards can be what you feel called for it to be, adding a deeper meaning to your reading, thus making it more appealing for many.  Whilst tarot, more extensive and detailed, speaks more to card reading tradition.  Tarot is an intricate divination system consisting of 78 cards which are divided and subdivided into categories – oracle are more free-wheeling from the set structure of tarot.  Oracle cards are like tarot in that they are ‘directive tools’ so they offer guidance, clarity, and a new perspective – often pointing you toward something you already knew but needed an outside vision on.  Oracle cards are more accessible for more people.  The flexibility of oracle cards means you can really bring a fusion of ones learnings on a personal development and spiritual  path into something visual, digestible and experiential.

Oracle Cards

I came across the oracle cards many years ago, they have aided me in decision making, and working through situations where I have felt stuck or confused.  It is a bit clichéd but the oracle cards have literally helped me ‘think outside the box’ – allowing me to see the same situation from a different perspective, providing me with the clarity and direction I needed.

With awareness, through my senses, I have observed my inner and outer world as well as my dream world with curiosity; I have determined that these messages must be signs.  These observations, I believe, could not just be co-incidences but synchronistic events.  I feel like the messages/ signs, are hidden clues for us to de-code/ decipher and interpret, as if we are on a treasure hunt.  Like a magical mystery tour – the tour being our life from birth to death and the mystery being what we must uncover and learn about ourselves, determining our soul-purpose in this lifetime.  This self-knowledge affords us the opportunity of living our authentic self filled with joy.  In trusting my intuition by observing the messages/ signs and using the oracle cards as a point of reference, I have been able to make sense of situations and circumstances in my life – by joining the dots so to speak.  It is a continuous thread of self-discovery, which in itself is a magical journey.

I feel that there has to be freedom in this world from human *suffering – on an individual/ personal level as well as collectively. (*extract from The Untethered Soul: The body communicates through its universal language; pain.  Our psyche communicates through its universal language; fear (self-consciousness, jealousy, insecurity, anxiety, anger, guilt, etc. they are all fear.).  Physical pain is only there when something is physiologically wrong but inner pain is always there, underneath, hidden by the many layers of our thoughts and emotions.  This inner pain is a psychological pain and we feel it most when our hearts go into turmoil, like when the world does not meet our expectations.  As we try to express ourselves daily, we carry an inner weight – the fear of experiencing the pain, so we are either feeling it or we are protecting ourselves from feeling it.  When Buddha said that all of life is suffering, this is what he was referring to.)
